A message from the Head Master, Anthony McQuiggan A warm welcome to everybody who visits this site. We are very pleased to know that you are curious about our School (now 50 years old) of which all of us in this community, parents, teachers, students and others associated with us, are very proud. We hope that you will find here all the basic information you need to know. The School, with its secondary section, the European School, follows the British National Curriculum from age 3 through to age 18, and students take the same tests and examinations as their counterparts in the UK, including the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) at age 16 and Advanced Level at age 18. Although the secondary section is very young, having started with three students in 1998, our young people are already beginning to move on to the best universities both in Libya and the rest of the world. Our standards are externally moderated and we know that we compare more than favourably with similar international schools to ours around the world. Although our numbers are not very large, over 40 nations are represented within our student body and the key belief of our school is that we are a family, caring for each other as equal world citizens, and respecting each other's ways of life. As well as curriculum matters you will be able to see letters, photo galleries and notices here which will be updated on a regular basis. We hope in this way to ensure that school communications are read by all, and this will mean, for parents, that the site should be visited regularly. Above all, the site should be interactive and we expect that you will soon be able to communicate electronically with all of us, as you wish, whenever you wish. Enjoy your time with us and welcome to The British School, Benghazi. Please also visit the site of our secondary section, The European School: www.bes-edu.org |
